Friday May 27 - Bob's Birthday Radio Marathon

Bobsbirdsnest

It's been a while . . . but I'm back in time to dust off those old hearing aids once again for the annual Bob Dylan Birthday Radio Marathon on 2SER FM (107.3 on your radio dial) with "live" streaming on the net here. Beginning at 10pm tonight (Friday May 27 AEST) and rollicking through until 3am Saturday morning, listeners will be entertained by the august crew of the team dedicated to bringing Bob to the airwaves on (or thereabouts) Bob's birthday for the past 20 years, ably assisted by members (official and unofficial) of what is fondly known as the Sydney Jumpers. This name has all sorts of connotations and meanings but I'll leave it to the reader to imagine where it fits in with attending Dylan concerts and/or being totally absorbed by the art of the Bobster. Here's the official blurb from 2SER's website explaining what can be expected:

Bob Dylan Birthday Marathon - 2SER FM 107.3
Friday 27 May 10:00pm-3:00am

Bob's Chronicles for Chronic Bobcats. To celebrate the 64th birthday of the "Picasso of Rock" 2SER's Bobcats have cleared the decks for the 21st broadcast of the Bob Dylan Birthday Marathon. From 10pm on hear the choicest cuts from Bob's entire career including his version of Sam Cooke's A Change is Gonna Come, I'll Remember You from Masked And Anonymous and the jazz version of Don't Think Twice, It's All Right. Also featuring excerpts from Bob's autobiography Chronicles as read by a very Dylanesque Sean Penn and a discussion on the book itself. Of course, there'll be The Dylan Quiz, the book and DVD review, and the news. The Bob Dylan Birthday Marathon has been running since 1985. For more information contact Bill Kitson.

Because I've been out of action here for a while, I don't have a chance in hell of getting a full gig listing together so I'm just gonna link you to the Flop Eared Mule blog of wonders where you'll find more things to do this weekend than you could poke a burnt stick at, so get with it . . . and I'll be back with more before you know it (promise!).

Weird saying (No 324)

I happened to mention at work something I learned as a child when playing backyard cricket. If you were batting and you happened to hit the ball into the angry neighbour's yard, the cry would come up from all the fielders: "Fox yer own mullock!" I was surprised that none of my co-workers had ever heard of it before. A quick Google search failed to verify my memories of the well-used saying (in country Western Australia, at least). Anyone else remember this?
