. . . message to self . . .
. . . go find a picture of The Murray Hillbillies . . . upload it here . . .
. . . and make an announcement to myself that that very same honky tonkin' country band is playing at the Bald Faced Stag tomorrow night (Saturday April 1), kicking off at about 9 pm. The festivities will continue til 1 am or thereabouts. Rob Luckey and his merry band of Bastards were booked but, due to unknown circumstances, they are now NOT playing. Those who haven't ventured out to a Hillbillies' gig should make an effort to get to see them pronto, as their mix of country standards, rockabilly covers and a few outstanding honky tonk instrumentals is as good as you'll get at any Sydney gig these days. And dancing is encouraged.
. . . but if you're in the mood for something a bit more esoteric (musically, at least) and you can handle the trip over to the far northern reaches of the Inner West, then the mob of grown men in the accompanying flyer should satisfy your needs.
Actually, a smart bit of transportation magic could see you cover the grounds of both these fine gigs. A set or two over at the Drummoyne RSL Club and a quick trip back over to Leichhardt would see the best of the two with a bit to spare! Warning! This should only be tried under the supervision of an understanding adult designated driver! There - that's Saturday covered.
So . . . the next hurdle is to check the pulse and blood pressure on Sunday morning and begin the arduous process of stroking the mind back to a level where the reality of taking in The Prickles at the Botany View Hotel, Newtown, would not only be acceptable but almost necessary - picture please!!
Thanks, Steve! Yes, I know I've used that one before but it's the only one still likely to pass the censors or not to damage your fellow Prickles' sensitivities. Besides, apart from the dozen or so punters who still know you exist, no one will really remember who you are!! Ha ha! Just joking fellas!! See ya at 6.30 Sunday at the BVH.
Oh . . . one more thing before I'm outta here. There's a rumour that the Balmain Bowling Club has canned the Hunter & Suzy Owens Band Friday night gigs. Anyone knowing anything about that might like to let me know. And . . . one MORE thing . . . how come Bill Chambers and The Flood did a gig at the Sando last night and no bastard let me know about it!!
Enjoy your April fools day!!
